Nedir Bey, who allegedly once tortured a man and then scored a $1.1 million loan from the City of Oakland that he never repaid, lost a $750,000 BART station lighting contract last night when he failed to turn in the proper paperwork by the deadline, the Trib and the SF Weekly report. In addition, Bey's failure to follow the contract's requirements means that BART may lose the state funding for the lighting project at the North Berkeley BART station.
The state had given BART a deadline of October 31 to use the funding for the contract. In other words, it looks like BART will have to forfeit much-needed state funds because the agency's board decided to award a contract to an ex-felon and deadbeat who then couldn't fulfill the requirements of the deal.

As much as I appreciate the extensive coverage that the Express has given this issue, there's one little thing I think needs to be said, every time this comes up.
The BART Directors who are responsible for this fiasco are Bob Franklin, Lynnette Sweet, and Carole Ward Allen.
Sometimes the express mentions this, sometimes, presumably in the interest of brevity, the names are left out.
I will continue to name names in the comments. It's important that the public know that these elected officials are irresponsible, and that they can be voted out of office. Carole Ward Allen's term is up in 2010. Vote for anyone but her.
