State Democratic Assembly leaders are apparently afraid of being labeled soft on crime if they go along with the governor's prison reform plan, so they're gutted it in an attempt to appease prosecutors and police chiefs. As a result, the Democrats are positioning themselves to the right of a two-term Republican governor. State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass has already eviscerated the governor's proposal, which would save the state about $1.2 billion over two years by cutting California's prison population by about 27,000 inmates.
Bass says there isn't enough votes in the Democratically controlled Assembly to approve Schwarzenegger's proposal, even though the state Senate has already passed it. Bass appears determined to keep more prisoners behind bars also in defiance of a court ruling that ordered the state to lessen the number of inmates by 40,000 in the next two years. The state is expected to appeal that ruling.

1. Start a union for prison guards.
2. Make everyone in your union give back to the union a large sum from every paycheck.
3. Use those funds to buy and pay for politicians.
4. Force the politicians to enlarge the prisons and hire more guards.
5. Keep raising the salaries for the guards, who pay more back each paycheck to the union.
Is there anyone out there who doesnt understand the Assembly cant vote as they wish? theyve been bought and paid for... see dbsearch.ss.ca.gov/ to find out how much money your Assembly Member is getting from the CCPOA union
The prison guards' union (CCPOA) is legislating for California taxpayers. They buy our legislators with their deep pockets, and Heaven forbid, standing up to them would be political suicide because they'd label you "soft on crime".
Certainly, there are people in prison who are monsters and deserve top be there and never get out. But, eventually, 90% of them do return to society. Since when did we decide that punishment is more important than rehabilitation? Oh that's right, we didn't make that decision, the CCPOA did! They are the ones who stand to benefit by warehousing inmates, which is all we're doing now, and failing even at that.
When California is paying more for prisons than for education, EVERYONE should wake up and see clearly what is happening here. The fearmongering this group does is ridiculous. The politicians' rhetoric about "mayhem in the streets" is ludicrous. They're just repeating what the CCPOA tells them to.
Sentencing commission is needed and a change in parole board personnell.
Mark Grangetto a prisoner's request for a Writ of Mandate under Assembly Bill 1539 "The Extended Compassionate Release": is scheduled for a Court hearing.
The hearing is set for September 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 19 of the Sacramento Superior Court.
The attorney, Ken Karan will be present, along with the mother of the inmate, Nora Weber, for the news media to speak to immediately following the Court hearing.
For those who want to attend you are more than welcomed. I believe this Court hearing will establish a Court decision regarding a recall of sentence for a disabled prisoner, and a Court decision associated with the responsibility, as spelled out in the Assembly Bill, that the CDCR must abide by.
This will be a real test if the State really wants to release a prisoner or if they will fight tooth and nail to keep even disabled prisoners, when the families, such as myself, are willing and able to take care of the disabled prisoner.
You can spread this news far and wide for anyone who wants to attend this hearing. I look forward to seeing you in Court.
