Fox News whack job Glenn Beck, who is losing sponsors by the dozens because of his outlandish comments about President Obama, has launched an attack on Van Jones, claiming the White House green jobs czar is an "avowed communist," and references a 2005 Express cover story as proof. Beck went after the longtime Oakland activist and environmentalist, following the disclosure that 33 of Beck's advertisers had pulled their ads from his program. The ad boycott was spearheaded by Color of Change, a liberal non-profit that Jones co-founded but is no longer associated with.
Beck's claim that Jones is a communist comes from a short passage in the Express profile of Jones that notes that after the Rodney King jury exonerated three LA cops, he viewed himself as "a communist," and then in 1994 at the age of 26 he helped launch Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, "which held study groups on the theories of Marx and Lenin and dreamed of a multiracial socialist utopia."
Of course, Beck ignores the rest of the Express profile on Jones' career and how he became a facilitator and conciliator who fought for the environment. Beck got in trouble with his advertisers after calling Obama a "racist" who "has a deep-seated hatred for white people," following the president's remark that Cambridge police had acted "stupidly," when they arrested a black Harvard professor in his own home.

Does America have a reading comprehension deficiency? When the guy says he was a nationalist, now a communist, he is not implying that he has embraced the social and economical ideology of such tenet wholeheartedly but rather stating that if he was determined on his social justice (a reference to the Rodney King protest), now he is more radical to achieve such goal (social justice) than before -- it was a "analogical metaphor." Another prevarication that is circulating about this man is that he was convicted and sentenced. He was arrested while "monitoring" the protest for police brutality when he was swept away by the force. Nonetheless, he was NEVER convicted because the DA dropped ALL the charges.
There are a thousand and one reasons not to see Van Jones as a qualified candidate for his position, i.e. his emotional responsiveness, etc., but these conspiratorial garbage that somehow are aimed to smear his character for his philosophical zinger is the old bullying tactic prominent in the political arena. Glenn Beck and his ilk are nothing more than tabloid politics like US and People magazines who spread false rumors about Palin's daughter.
Since when is participating in a study group on anything a disqualification for a spot it the administration? I guess that is not something we had to worry about with our last president. Also Van Jones' title is given as "the Council to the President." [sic] More evidence of illiteracy. Our civilization is really in trouble if changing things in Wikipedia becomes a polically-motivated activity. In fact, I think this is not allowed by the Wikipedia guidelines. This passage was added to the bio on Aug 26 2009.
I was inspired to do some research because i simply could not believe that it was true that an ex con admitted communist could hold a position with any power in the white house. What I have discovered is interesting to say the least.
It was not 1 quote it was tens years of this mans life devoted to radical beliefs. I do not think for one moment he has "radically" changed his beliefs again. He spent years fighting for his causes. To be honest his arrests do not concern me, they do appear to be harmless and in at least one case charges were dropped.
What is very interesting is when you start to read the articles and propaganda these groups promoted. Thats when things get dicey for me. Much of what they pushed seems to be in place and happening today in our government. http://www.socialisteducation.org/ check out these 11 points for 21st century socialism and tell me what you think. I found this link on the home page of www.cc-ds.org which happens to be an organization that promotes socialism. It also happens to have board members that have ties or friendships with Obama.
Especially pay attention to point 4 and 7
Love to hear some feed back
From a "wise American citizen".... who happens to be a woman.... will REMEMBER decades of service and QUOTES.
Anthony a.k.a. "Van" Jones a co- founder of STORM promoting his communist marxist agenda and in his own words, " I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th [1992], and then the verdicts came down on April 29th. By August, I was a communist. (...) I met all these young radical people of color I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.' I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary."
The only difference now... he's learned how to beat the system....he make's them think he's one of them as he pushes his "revolutionary" anti American radical agenda.
The most disturbing is President Obama being advised & surrounding himself with extremists that have communist, marxist, socialist views.
This might explain why this administration is in a whirlwind bent on taking over everything they can get their hands on like the automobile industry, banks & healthcare. This is exactly what a communist, marxist, socialist government does!
And if Jones is one of the world's last half-dozen communists, so what? How would that political belief prevent him from overseeing a push for environmentally-friendly jobs? Are you expecting him to launch an uprising of sustainable development coordinators?
What idiocy. Beck's grasping at straws.
Mr Gammon is nothing more than a socialist stooge trying to hide the fact that Van Jones is a communist. Glenn Beck simply stated facts regarding Mr. Jones' background and now his group "Color of Change" is spearheading a boycott protest against Glenn Beck??? A good amount of Beck's presentation on Jones were clips of Jones speaking. Did Jones' words beguile him?
You communists are like cockroaches, scurrying around in the dark, but when the lights come on you run for cover.
This is sort of a "wise Latina woman" moment...critics ignore decades of service but find one quote to bash someone with.
I read the entire article and am not comforted by the fact that the self-described communist is also an environmentalist. He learned how to make his views more palatable, but I don't see that he changed his views.
