The City of Alameda has agreed to pay $2.25 million to the family of Dr. Zehra Attari, the Oakland pediatrician who got lost more than three years ago on a rainy night, drove into the Estuary, and drowned. Attari's family claimed that the city was negligent because the road she was driving on lacked warning signs that it was about to go straight into the water. According to the Alameda Journal, the settlement agreement allows the city to deny wrongdoing, which is standard in these type of cases. However, the city effectively acknowledged its culpability when it blocked off the road after Attari died. Two other men also had drowned in the same place in almost the same fashion.
