Your Black Muslim Bakery Is Back In Business

We should have noted this earlier, but members of the defunct Your Black Muslim Bakery have opened a new bakery on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in North Oakland called Your Community Café & Bakery, according to the Chauncey Bailey Project. The project reported on the new bakery at 4501 MLK in a story over the weekend about associates of the original bakery running afoul of the law. In other words, the bakery is back in business in more ways than one.
The new bakery is being run by Jamal Bey, who was caught up in the 2005 liquor store vandalism spree that also ensnared Yusuf Bey IV, the alleged mastermind of the murder of journalist Chauncey Bailey. And guess who is baking all the new goodies for the new cafe? None other than Daulet Bey, Bey IV's mother and one of the widows of the elder Yusuf Bey, founder of the original bakery who died while facing charges of raping young girls. Daulet Bey also used to be the main baker at the old bakery on San Pablo Avenue before it went bankrupt.

I knew some of the good people at Your Black Muslim Bakery during the '90s. I 'm white and female; I was always treated with respect and great food. The crimes committed, if anyone associated with the group was involved, are unpardonable. But remember how many times untruths have been spoken, written, and wrongly prosecuted by our country's judicial system. I don't think the hate-mongers are 'all' of the people who may have been associated with YBMB. Some of the media comments represent the hate-mongering that goes on and on, in every city, in every country of the world. And our country has for years thrown money overseas usually for reasons of government greed. I'm calling for help for us in the inner city. Hate is escalating in Oakland; it is clearly evident in the Bay Area media. The hate perpetuates more hate and a fiercer hate. I walked with some members of YBMB in the mid-'90s; we walked for peace in the Oakland inner city. We prayed for peace and the defusing of the violence against one another there. I haven't read a comment that acknowledges some of those who worked in the bakeries or in some way associated with the bakery who were and are Americans struggling to improve their lives within the rules and regulations of the judicial system. The Bay Area media lumps everyone ever associated with YBMB into one negative, good-for-nothing ball of scum; ostracizing everyone of them for crimes that others may or may not have committed. Shame on Oakland for violating our judicial system's code: "innocent until proven guilty."

If I recall, when Your Black Muslim Bakery was closed down by the Department of Public Health they found rampant violations including evidence of rats, buckets of piss in the kitchen, and all sorts of other things. And these are the same folks running this bakery?
May be if you guys stoped by you could see that there is no black muslim bakery there ! we are nice kind people who are trying to make a change in our community !

We went into the old one on San Pablo once and they did (eventually, after other, non-white people who came in after us) serve us. Way too much mayo on the sandwich, though. But it was very tasty.
Hope Bailey's surviving family gets money from the Beys because they owe him a son. Another public realtions nightmare for Dellums.
Will they sell to me, the white devil? Pastries always taste better when filled with hate and evil.

so many of these organization that "help the community" are really fronts for the power-hungry.

Yeah, I totally agree that these guys are great for our community. I mean it has to be a sheer coincidence that murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping follow this group wherever they go. The police need to stop harrassing these innocent people. All they are trying to do is live an honest life (by stealing, killing, and raping others)

Marvin - Destroying property of another is NOT helping the community. Let's say Mr. Bey decided to smash out the windows on your car; would that be
helpful? He cost a legitimate business owner a lot of money because he was against something. I was against his reaction & I am not given a free
pass to do anything to Mr. Bey. The law is the law plain & simple - you break them and pay the price. I have ZERO respect for those that can not
respect others & it is obvious that Mr. Bey does not respect his fellow community members.
A business cover to systemically shield blakc thugs who have a very well documented history of being associated with rape, incest and murder.
Anyone who would give an entity like this their money should not be allowed to possess money.
That is a good start. I wish them the best of luck. I will surely stop by and purchase some baked goods as I pass by that way in the mornings.
One hopes these apparently ardent students of history will learn from the multitude of mistakes by their predecessors.
You need to stop that madness Jamal is a young man trying to do something good for the Community. He is very bright and mature for his age. At the age of 23 he has built what no other 23 year old has ever built in Oakland. He helps the needy and provides jobs for the neighborhood! He also encourages young men to stop selling drugs and start setting examples for the Youth in Oakland. Jamal also gives free tutoring for youth, MR. Robinson is doing something that the government should be paying him for, but they build more prisons and close down our schools, but out of the kindness of that young man’s heart he is a giver! I am no Muslim but I have respect for that young man.
