We Have a New Congressman

It looks like Democratic State Senator Mark DeSaulnier will replace Ellen Tauscher in Congress, now that fellow Dem Assemblyman Tom Torlakson has bowed out of the running. According to the Trib, Torlakson has decided to continue his quest to be state Superintendent of Public Instruction. That makes DeSaulnier a shoe-in in the heavily Democratic Congressional District that includes most of Contra Costa County. The severely outnumbered Republicans have virtually no shot at beating him, especially now that the popular Torlakson has endorsed him. Tauscher is leaving the post to become the State Department's lead arms control negotiator.
