Robert Gammon —  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 5:38 PM

You say they are so hateful for donating to a cause in which they believe, and yet you hatefully put their names on this list as if you are so much better. If you believe in democracy, you would allow people to support causes in which they believe.

Lorenzo Hoopes gave more money to Proposition H8 than every other donor in the city of Oakland combined, according to the records I checked. He does not deserve a seat on any Oakland Board or Commission, because his values are out of touch with the populus.

This is pretty poor Mr. Gannon. How about a little reciprocity by publishing the list of shame for those that voted for Man on Man love so we can boycott them or pay them a visit and shame them or out them in public. Fair and balanced is the way to go.

Lorenzo Hoopes, who's on this list of shame, is up for an appointment to the Paramount Theater Board in Oakland. The appointment requires City Council approval. Write an email to your Oakland City Council member and tell them to tell Hoopes to get lost.

Just so you know, any time you donate money to a political organization/campaign, your information (how much you donated, who you are, etc.) is listed for public viewing. He is just making this information easier to access.

This reminds me of newspapers in the south that used to print the name and address of black boys accused of committing crimes. They did it knowing that a lynch mob would likely be enticed to track the boys down and kill them. This is not much different.

What's it feel like to be a fascist, Robert Gammon? Do you enjoy threatening private individuals? This is the most shocking and outrageous example of journalistic malfeasance I've ever seen. When one of these people gets physically attacked, which is EXACTLY what you want to happen and the whole purpose behind this "name 'em and shame 'em" intimidation campaign, the crime will be laid at your feet.

How you can live with yourself, I have no idea. Making political donations, to any proposition, is perfectly legal. What's not legal is publishing people's names and addresses for the purpose of inviting assault upon them by thugs.

You sit there in your sanctimony, drowning in your own smugness, unable to see how YOU are the totalitarian, YOU are the Brownshirt. You want to see hate? Look in the mirror.

What next: A Kristallnacht against businesses and homes of people who donated to Prop 8? Because that's exactly where this is heading, and you know it. In fact I suspect you'll be the person to throw the first brick.

Needless to say, this is the last time I will EVER read one word of the East Bay Express. And yes, this is coming from someone who voted against Prop 8 myself! It's one thing to express one's opinion democratically, quite another to descend to hate-fueled intimidation tactics, which is exactly what you have done.

You disgust me, Robert Gammon, as do your bosses who allowed this to be published..
