Trib Columnist Strikes Again

Chris Thompson —  Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 9:26 AM

Hey, let's look in on Tammerlin Drummond! Last we checked, the Oakland Tribune opinion columnist had discovered that people are mean on the Internet. This time around, Drummond tackles the intersection of race, class, celebrity, and gender that is the O.J. Simpson saga. What insights does the Trib's resident deep thinker have for us this time around? "Personally, I think Simpson may just finally get what he deserves." Hey, us too! Whaddya know?

Gosh, Tammerlin, if you put this much pepper in your columns, we wouldn't nod off trying to read them.

To this exchange I offer an age-old hip hop proverb: "Hateration is the truest form of flattery." If you embrace this aphorism, you should endeavor to have 16 more Chris Thompson-like haters piling on before the year is out. Keep up the good work Tammerlin. Let the haters do their job, by letting you know you’re doing yours.

Yo Chris! Does the word "hater" mean anything to you? Have you nothing better to do than make snarky comments about my column? Which incidentally has been picked up in respected national publications such as the Washington Post--which is more than one can say, I'm sure, for your mean-spirited rants in the East Bay Express. I met your editor several months back at the East Bay Press Club Awards dinner, where, incidentally, I won first place for editorial writing. Funny thing. He was very complimentary about the column, which I had just started. The question is Chris, if my column is as vacuous as you claim, why do you even waste whatever remaining breaths you have on the planet reading it? And even more to the point, why do you take up valuable internet space trashing it? If someone put a gun to my head I couldn't tell them any stories that you had written. Why don't you do yourself a favor and get a life!
