Oakland Animal Services has just sent out a bulletin "to provide an update on the remarkable recovery of Little Lance, the dog that was shot, thrown from a car, and left for dead in East Oakland on August 1

. Since Little Lance's story broke, over 400 people donated to Friends of Oakland Animal Services on his behalf. These donations made it possible for Lance to have surgery to remove a piece of vertebrae from his spinal canal, fix his badly broken leg and receive around the clock post-operative care. Little Lance is now walking and even trying to run. The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for hurting Lance and killing another dog has grown from an initial $1,000 funded by FOAS and Jarrod Cooper, Oakland Raider's player and OAS volunteer, to now over $14,000 through contributions from the East Bay SPCA, Pet Food Express, and other local businesses and individuals. ... Little Lance will return from the Berkeley Dog and Cat Veterinary Clinic to the Oakland Animal Shelter" to attend a forthcoming press conference. "There he will be meeting, for the first time, his new foster mom who was chosen from over 50 people who inquired about fostering/adopting him."
