Police Action Is Snarling Berkeley Traffic

A police action now in progress in the Summit Road/Uplands Road area of Berkeley is affecting traffic in that area. A perimeter has been formed and officers from various agencies, including the Berkeley Police Department, have been on the scene since this morning searching for suspects.

A police action now in progress in the Summit Road/Uplands Road area of Berkeley is affecting traffic in that area. A perimeter has been formed and officers from various agencies, including the Berkeley Police Department, have been on the scene since this morning searching for fleeing suspects.

A friend has just called to say that her car was turned back as she tried to approach Berkeley from the Oakland hills about an hour ago. Patrol cars were all over the area, she said. She had to detour and "a drive that should have taken twenty minutes took an hour." The exit to Tunnel Road from Highway 13 was blocked.—Anneli Rufus
