Your Black Muslim Bakery Raided

Fri, Aug 3, 2007 at 4:56 PM

Early Friday morning, Oakland police led a task force of a couple hundred officers that raided the headquarters of Your Black Muslim Bakery. It was evidently the culmination of a one-year investigation into alleged criminal activity by members of the organization. Officials would not say whether the raid was connected with the apparent assassination Thursday of Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey, who was evidently working on a story about the group's finances. KTVU has footage of the pre-dawn raid, in which shots appear to have been fired.

KTVU quoted Oakland Deputy Police Chief Howard Jordan as saying that the raid was designed to search for evidence associated with "several violent felonies including, murder, robbery, and kidnapping." This is not the first time the Black Muslim sect associated with the bakery has been associated with criminal activity. In 2002, the Express wrote a two-part series about the sect's troubled history, which included past allegations of murder, torture, kidnapping, rape, and other crimes. You can read them here: Part One. Part Two.

What I think is interesting is the little-noticed reportage on the inside page of the Chronicle's front page treatment on Sunday: that the 19 year old head of YBMB met with MAYOR DELLUMS and BARBARA LEE!?!? This was MONTHS after the elder bey's statutory rape and the post-dynasty murderfest these "muslims" perpetrated in North Oakland. How can these people have access to these politicians?

Sorry for being such a nag on an obvious point that media not addressing: When cops had linked the Muslim Fakery crew to two other homicides, why did they wait for Chauncey's death to serve arrest warrants? Maybe his death was not foreseeable, but other deaths/beatings at the hands of Bean-Curd Murder Inc. were somewhat predictable. It boils down to media being afraid to piss off the police brass. Do your jobs. Also, can hardly wait to see what favors or contributions Muslim Fakery gave and got from East Bay politicos. I look forward to the Express exploring these questions.

Y is it that when it comes to a black owned buisness, police and reporters of the media are quick to start raiding them. What about the Italian mafia's buisness's where many individuals get killed a year by them. and I don't see no fucking cops raiding their shit. all I gotta say is fuck the police

how about this for a story: Why did it take a police raid to get the health department down to the bakery to find the filthy conditions that led to the bakery being closed down? What is the matter with the local health department? Shouldn't this have been caught months or years ago? Just think of all the people who have eaten bits of rat hairs in their bread or muffins. what about the rest of the food establishments in oakland, and , for that matter, all of Alameda County? The Express should do a story on the public health department just to find out what it does to protect the health of people eating out in our community. Does it take a situation as extreme as this one to should down an eating establishment. I was surprised that there has been no mention of this in the news media. whatsoever.
